Project goal

To gain a better understanding of design principles and guidelines for making user friendly and intuitive graphical user interfaces.

Tise App

The Tise app’s UI is evaluated based on five key principles:

  1. Effective Communication – The UI provides clear and concise information at the right time, avoiding overcommunication while ensuring users understand tasks.
  2. Effortless Responses – Users can easily make decisions without excessive reading, supported by intuitive layouts like a step-by-step category selection process.
  3. Intuitive Design – The app leverages familiar interaction patterns, such as swipe-based navigation similar to TikTok, and universally recognized icons for easy understanding.
  4. Forgiveness – The UI minimizes errors by allowing users to make small mistakes without punishment, such as a forgiving search function that accounts for typos.
  5. Minimize Repetitiveness – The app reduces redundant user input by remembering preferences, though minor improvements could enhance efficiency further.
Fizza (Automated Pizza Machine)

The Fizza interface is analyzed through five design aspects:

  1. Affordance – Some UI elements lack clear affordance, such as buttons that do not visually indicate their clickability, leading to potential confusion.
  2. Design for Scanning – Users scan rather than read in detail, but the menu layout is not optimized for this, causing difficulties in navigation.
  3. Readability – Overly long and complex text reduces clarity; simplifying messages and using progressive disclosure could improve usability.
  4. Feedback – The progress bar provides useful status updates but lacks strong visual contrast, making it less effective. Estimated waiting time could improve clarity.
  5. Personality – The UI attempts to engage users with fun facts but suffers from inconsistent language and could enhance its personality through typography and visual design.
